Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Was my vehicle illegally towed?

In August 2003, when I was not at home my landlord put all my belongings outside after the sheriff kicked in the door. My car and truck were towed by a garage to a storage site to get them off the property on the landlords' orders. The garage still has my truck because the eviction is still in court as the landlord was ordered to refund my security deposit and will not pay me. The garage wants $2000.00 for my truck storage and towing and has file for a lost title to claim my truck. If I would have been home he could have towed the vehicles to another place I specified instead of taking them to his storage. What can I do now?

Re: Was my vehicle illegally towed?

In order for the Sheriff to "kick in the door" there should have been a hearing and a court order setting a date and time for your eviction. If this was not done, you should contact an attorney in your area.
