Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Illinois

Power of Attorney for Athletes

How does one word a letter granting power of attorney to a person to represent an athlete in discussions about his acquisition by a team without losing all rights? This athlete is looking for a position on a team in Mexico, and has been asked to cede his rights to a person connected who will represent him. I think it is a mistake.

Please have an attorney review the document. I like to see the power of attorney limited in scope and authority, and you should have the final say in significant matters.

Re: Power of Attorney for Athletes

Hello. First of all the

athlete should have an

agent and a carefully worded

contract with the agent. To

grant that type of authority

without a contract and without

knowledge of this individual,

in my opinion, would be a

serious mistake. Good Luck.
