Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Pacticial First Steps

My wife and I have decided to divorce. She lives in the residence that I pay all the bills for including mortgage, gas, electric, phone but I have been asked not to live their anymore. We are both on the deed to the property do I have ever right to live there I do believe but for sanity sake best not too. Who is responsible for the utilities?

Shall I shut them off and force the issue of them taking responsibility?

Re: Pacticial First Steps

Hello. Since your wife is living there alone, she should pay all of the bills associated with the residence. The quicker you file for

divorce or legal separation, the better. Getting into court will protect you since the court will

determine whom is to pay which financial obligation. Will be happy to discuss this matter with you and in more detail.
