Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Small Claims Court Laws

I reside in the state of Illinois and I need to sue someone who used to live in Illinois but currently resides in Georgia. I have read that I will need to file the suit in Georgia, but do I have to travel there to appear in court? Is there a way for me to sue without having to go down to Georgia. The defendent is refusing to repay a loan that he agreed to pay back in May 2006.

Actually, you may be able to sue in Illinois. the problem will be collecting. Unless he has assets in Illinois, you will probably have to register your judgment in Georgia in order to collect.
