Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Last April (2013) we let a family move into a home that we owned that was empty with the verbal agreement that they only had to pay utility bills. This was done to give them a chance to get back on their feet. At this point they have run up over $3000.00 in utility bills (gas and electric) and will not leave this house. I have sent them several messages that have let them know that they had to be out by March 1, 2014. They are still there and are showing no intention of moving out. What can I do?

Evict based on month to month tenancy. No reason required.

I agree with the previous answer. What you need to do is to give them a 30 days notice. When did their tenancy begin? was it on the first of the month? if so, then you need to give them the notice at the end of March giving them 30 days in April. Since there are 30 days in April, then they have until the end of April to leave. If they are not out by May 1, then you need to file an eviction action against them.
