when charting in a patients medical chart and the Doctor uses black ink what color ink should the nurse use when rooming the patient for it to be legal

I am not sure where the medical profession got the idea that there are "legal" and "illegal" colors. There is no "illegal" color. Even crayons can be used to create perfectly legitimate and enforceable legal documents. On the other hand, your employer might have a preference or a requirement, in which case, you would need to comply with that. If there is no such requirement, then I would probably avoid dissappearing ink, but otherwise, bust out the Crayolas and have at it.
