Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

Injured on the job

My wife was injured working at a departent store. She was asked to gift wrap a set of knives. The original box for the knives was not available and she was told to wrap them in paper, place them in a corragated outer box and gift wrap them. While working with another employee on this task a knife pushed through the box and cut her two fingers as she was taping the wrapping paper. While her fingers were bleeding, she drove herself to the hospital and received 8 total stitches. One of the fingers is healing well, but the other still is sore and causes her pain. This happened about a month or so ago. She also never got paid for the time she was in the emergency room. One of my biggest concerns is that they let her drive herself while she was bleeding. What should be done now to protect her in the event the finger does not heal properly.

You should go to the Ollinois Workers Compensation Website. There is a link to a handbook that will explain in laymans terms what your wife is entitled to and what the employer is required to do.
