Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Closing Documents and Incorrect PIN Number

I have a strong feeling an incorrect PIN number was included in my closing documents. The prior owner had two parking spaces, and one came with my unit. I believe the numbers were switched on the documents, and now my mortgage company is paying the taxes on someone else's PIN while ''mine'' goes unpaid. Is the title company required to fix this? The city Assesor's office has been of no help and my closing attorney is MIA. Thanks for your help!

Re: Closing Documents and Incorrect PIN Number

it is not the title company's obligation. It is between you [and your attorney-MIA or not] and the Seller's Attorney. It would appear that the Seller's attorney put the wrong PIN on the deed and your attorney did not catch it. Trying going to the County Treasurer or get a new attorney to resolve the problem.

I don't think that the title company could care less about this. You need to get this resolved, probably by filing a corrective deed. To do this, you need to get your attorney (old or new) on board with Seller's attorney, and don't forget to keep your mortgage company in the loop, as I assume that you are paying $$ to them for a tax escrow. What a can of worms! Good Luck!
