Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Illinois

the law of harrassment

I was told by a manager at my work place that if someone was joking aroundand sexual things came up and you did not address it then that if they did it again then we have made it law and it is OK to sexual harrass me. He said that I should have stopped it the first time but since I did not it is ok for that person to call me names and sexual harrass me. I feel unconfortable and he just will not stop saying nasty things. I guess it was funny but this person just keep talkign it to far and making it too personal to me. Help me and tell me what my rights are .

Re: the law of harrassment

Dear Steph-you have the right to tell someone to stop at any point at which you feel uncomfortable. You should also tell your manager immediately. There are some consequences of not stopping the acts sooner but it should not way impede your ability to later on stop the situation.
