Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in

My father in law expired and we have a rented house in mumbai. but this is a pagadi system. He was staying in this bldg for the last 50 - 60 years that is may be 1950. At the moment my husband, myself and my son are staying . But the house is not in our name. MY rent receipt is in father in laws name. should we continue like this. or will landlord tell us to evict the house. then what we should do. pls help us. My husband is also staying here since birth. pls help us

the receipt can be changed only with the consent of the landlord. Orally request him if he agrees fine or else let it continue like it.

let the landlord file a petition for eviction, only then you may defend your case. there is no need to do anything at this juncture. keep paying the rent.

you should talk to the landlord and get the receipt on your name to be safe as per Maharashtra Rent Act
