Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Contacting neighbors re: debt

Is their anything that can be done to stop creditors from contacting neighbors/friends. While I do take creditors calls, after I have explained myself and they continually call, I've begun screening my calls. Recently, they have begun calling my neighbor to determine my whereabouts. Can this be done legally?

Re: Contacting neighbors re: debt

Collection agencies may contact neighbors to get location information. They cannot discuss your debt with them. You should read this: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm
