Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Student loan collections

I have a law firm that has been calling about a student loan tha is 17 years old. There have beenonly phone conversations. I have not committed to anything. The man said if I do not make a good faith payment and commit to balance pay off , they will freeze my assets. Is there a statute of limitations for this debt. What can they do? He said they would freeze my assets. Can they freeze a bank account if it is a joint account? I have never received anything in writing.Nothing shows on my credit report. And they have never kept my taxes. The man wanted me to re-finance my house through one of his referrals. I wouldn't.

Re: Student loan collections

No statute of limitations for student loans.

No freezing a joint account unless both parties are liable on the loan.

However, something strikes me as odd about this collector. Contact the federal Department of Education or Indiana's Attorney General's consumer division.
