Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Legally Adopting Stepdaughter

My 15-year-old stepdaughter wants to take my last name and I want to legally adopt her. I have been in her life for almost 2 years and have been married to her mother for 4.5 months. Where can I find more information about the state legislation about proceeding with the adoption?

You really should obtain the services of an attorney. Adoptions are somewhat technical and a mistake can really come back to haunt you. If you go to the Indiana Code. You will find the legislation for adoptions in Chapter 31.

This is not something you are likely to be able to do yourself. There are some technical provisions that you are probably not going to understand, or to miss, which are critical. Strongly suggest you get a lawyer near you to do it.
