buying land

we were purchasing land from a realestate broker to build our house we were told to go ahead and ge pemits ad to pu te driveway in. when closing came around to purchase the land and start building there was a mechanical lein put on the land.and the broker said that he thinks the people that put the lein on the land is just going to wait until the lein expires. my question is, do i have the right to get my money back for what i have in to it. even though our purchase agreement has expired. and we are no longer obligated to purchase the land.we just don't want to wait another month or so to build. do we have a case against this land owner?

Re: buying land

Your question is unclear. Was the real estate broker the land owner, or did the realtor just represent the land owner? Regardless, you were foolish for putting in a driveway on property you did not own. If the broker is the landowner there may be things you can do that otherwise you could not in terms of a legal situation.
