You, as guardian or agent with power of attorney, would not be responsible for debts of the principal or other person in need of services unless by some chance you signed an agreement with the creditor to be personally liable. So the short asnwer is: no, not liable. Only the decedent's estate would be liable for debts which were incurred in his lifetime. If you open an estate, then the creditors have only three months to file their claims. If there are assets in the estate, you should confer with an attorney experienced in probate law. Good luck.
