Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

My daughter signed a hand written form with the father of her roommate that she would find someone to sub-lease in her place if she moved out of the apartment. This happened and instead of finding a sub-renter she found a girl to take over the lease. The apartment owner had the new girl sign a new lease. My daughters name is not on any of the apartment papers but the father of her roommate is trying to get her to pay for half the rent because the new girl moved out after a few months. Can he legally do anything because of this paper she signed with him?

No. Your daughter fulfilled her part of the agreement and is out of the equation. She didn't agree to guarantee the next person's lease.
