Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

child custody

My 15 year old daughter is pregnate and not responsable enough to take care of the baby herself. I would like to take custody until she is at least out of highschool. I cannot find any laws or regulations to tell me what any of our rights or choices are in this matter.

Re: child custody

One question is whether your 15 yr old daughter lives with you or not. I am assuming that she does and I am also assuming she is unmarried because that also makes a difference.

The statutes you need to be looking in are in Chapter 610 and 620. Start by looking at KRS 610.050, 610.020. In some counties, a Judge with accept a petition from a relative and in other counties, such as Fayette, you must first call the Cabinet for Families and Children.

Before doing all that, though, find out if your daughter will agree to give you either guardianship or temporary custody.
