Social security disability back pay

If a rerson gets a sizeable check for back pay from winning there social security disability , do they have to spend it all right away or can they save some of it. What percent can they save?

If your retro is regular SS disability (Title II, DIB, SSDI, etc.)there is no asset limit so you can save it without fear of disqualification. If this $ was sent to you by mail and came in a white envelop, it is regular SS disability.

If it is SSI disability (came in a blue envelop) it is a different/more complicated story.
