Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

bigamy

I applied and received a marriage licensce in lafayette while still married in the state of arkansas. Seperated and was in process of divorce, since that time the marriage was brought up in the divorce hearing. How do I remove the marriage licensce from lafayette courthouse without a divorce decree? Divorce is final in arkansas and during the hearing we found out our marriage in lousiana was void , we are wanting to legalize our marriage in louisiana but they will not give us another marriage licsence until the prior one is voided. Will there be Bigomy charges and what is the punishment?

Re: bigamy

You did more than just "I applied and received a marriage license in lafayette while still married in the state of Arkansas." You got married in Lafayette and that is your problem. How could you not think that a marriage in Louisiana before your divorce in Arkansas was null and void? Since you never mentioned "having the marriage ceremony" in Louisiana, what were you hiding? If all you did was get a license and never had the ceremony, then you do not have to do anything in Louisiana since there is "no marriage" without a ceremony. If you did get married in Louisiana, then you have to have it judicially declared a nullity, since that is what it is.
