Legal Question in Insurance Law in Louisiana

Contractor contacted adjuster

A few months ago, my high-dollar home caught fire. Needless to say, the insurance company doesn't want to pay for this and that. The problem is that the first contractor I contacted asked to see the adjusters summary, which was low. Basically, the contractor's estimate came in low, so I figured he just copied the adjuster's estimate. I sent the contractor an email telling him under no circumstances do not contact the adjuster, that I or a lawyer would handle the situation. I had no intenions of hiring the guy. All of my other estimates for repairs were much higher than his, yet accurate. Needless to say, the insurance adjuster handed me this contractor's estimate and said that it could be done for that price. The contractor apparently contacted the adjuster because he was upset he didn't get the job? He then faxed him the estimate. Can he get away with this? This throws a wrench in the whole situation.

This case has too many possibilities to be fully & fairly answered in this forum. Seek a lawyer that you have faith in and let her/him do their job.

I agree with Mr. Casanave. But answering part of your question, the contractor can contact the adjuster. However, you need the policy to make sure it allows replacement value and not actual value etc. See an attorney.
