Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Louisiana

I was contacted today via U.S. Mail that a Hopsital that I had received care at, had an incident. The letter informed me that a laptop was taken from a physicians office and that it contained my private patient information. This was medical records for a 48 day stay in the hospital's ICU way back in 2004. They noticed it missing this past week. There are so many questions that I have, like why do you have my almost 8 year old patient information on a laptop in 2012? They sent me a free credit monitoring service, but that just doesn't seem right to me. I have not signed up for the monitoring service because I feel like my private medical information was violated. What can I do from here?

If it is the incident at OLOL, none of your financial information was on the laptop. Howeve, your private medical information was on it. You could sue but you would need to prove actual harm.
