Legal Question in Personal Injury in Louisiana

Injury-Unknown Cause

A man was inuured while attending a gathering at my home. No one has any idea how he broke his foot, he told several stories ranging from falling from a moving vehicle to wrecking his own four wheeler. An ambulance was called to transport him and he has no medical insurance due to unemployment. We carry a home owner's policy but since we are not sure how he was injured, we do not know what course of action to take. The man was also intoxicated, he had been drinking all day and we have several witnesses to this as well as that can reiterate the numerous stories told. The ambulance personell was also given conflicting stories by him of what happened. Should we contact our insurance carrier? A personal injury lawyer? Can we be held liable, even though no one knows what happened? He was by himself when we found him lying in our yard and he cannot even tell us if he was at our home when he was injured.

Re: Injury-Unknown Cause

You do not need to do anything if and until he seeks damages from you. If that happens, then contact your homeowner's insurance company and they will handle it. If a suit is filed, the insurance company owes you a defense using defense attorneys to do so. It will cost you nothing.
