Legal Question in Personal Injury in Louisiana

Ownership after bankruptcy

I am being asked to answer to a petition drawn up by my ex husband and his father and brothers in regards to etchings which were sold after my divorce in order to provide basic living expenses for myself and my minor child. My ex husband is an attorney. He continues to harass and cause unneeded stress in my life.I am being sued for $15000. dollars . He is claiming that the etchings/ books were not community property even though it was left in our joint domicile. The money received was used for basics like food and shelter and schooling for our daughter and myself. There was no community property settlement even though the Judge told my ex for him to draw up the settlement in order to save expenses at the contempt hearing that my ex husband was ordered to pay back child suppot that was owed. My ex husband was listed in my Bankruptcy which listed personal belongings does he have a case . He left us without food and money and utilities. Will I be liable to pay $15000.00 all I received was $7500. for the books/etchings and the money was used for basic survival.

Re: Ownership after bankruptcy

First, you need to find an attorney in or near the location of the court where this matter will be decided. Secondly, there are ways to offset anything you might owe for the etchings with other community property. So, find an attorney.
