Legal Question in Family Law in Maine

dividing property

Good evening,

I need help...I put a downpayment on a house but had no credit so the house is in my boyfriends name. I have contributed half of everything here. I want to move to my son's in GA and I know he won't go with me. I would like to have half the equity of the house. We have done a lot of remodeling here. How hard will it be for me to do this? My name is on the house insurance only. Though I gave him 1,000 every month.

Re: dividing property

You are in a tough position; no doubt about it. However, if you are able to document your contribution, particularly the down payment, you should be able to recover some of your monies, even if not the full one half of the equity.

Obviously, I would need more details to give you a specific answer, but it does appear that you have a case. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
