Legal Question in Administrative Law in Maryland

I only had one name given at birth, so years ago I put my knickname on my birth certificate which gave me a first and second name. Once you do that can I have that name removed or can I have it changed to another name now??

Thanks Darlene

You can legally change your name as long as the change is not for puposes of fraud. The process begins in the courts and, once the judge approves the change, you take the court order to the various agencies which need to be updated, i.e., Social Security Administration, DMV, etc. The entire process takes approximately 6 months if there are no objections. Call if you would like to discuss.
