Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

juvenille

Long story down to this question- On Oct 11,2007 my 17 yr old son was served his court summons for his arraignment, which is on Oct 30th,2007.On Oct 23,2007 we went to the public defenders office, so he could apply. Did not speak to a lawyer but was given proof of representation and told 1) would call within 3 days 2) may not come to court with us on the 30th-since they do not speak 3) arraignment is where you get the ''court'' or ''trial'' date.

Today ( Oct 25th) in mail I get a letter stating the case is scheduled for Adjudication on Dec 10th- and public defender wants to meet with son on Nov.14th to prepare for trial!!

I am very confused now!!! please help-

Re: juvenille

Once a lawyer enters an appearance for a defendant, the arraignment is dispensed with. At the 11/14 meeting, presumably your son's court appointed lawyer will discuss the case and what options your son has--i.e., stand trial or try to negotiate a plea bargain with the prosecutor.
