In the state of Maryland, when can a divorce actually be filed?

It depends on the grounds for divorce. Some fault-based divorces can be filed immediately. E.g., adultery. Some grounds require a period of time to pass, such as divorce after 12 months of voluntary separation. If you do have to wait but there are issues that need to be addressed in the meantime, you can file for a "limited" divorce to bring those issues before the Court sooner rather than later. Once the required time has passed, you can then file for an "absolute" divorce to actually dissolve the marriage. Hope this helps.
