Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Maryland

My students in school put on a Christmas production featuring many songs. Are we able to sell DVDs or CDs of the Christmas program to parents and friends?

It depends on a lot of different things -- who recorded the video? were the songs original or copyright protected? are you public school or private school - in other words, do you have the proper authority from your county superintendent?

Best of luck.

As a Franchise Attorney I entirely agree with the other attorney answer. The principal issue is whether or not the songs are subject to a valid, current copyright. If so, just performing these songs is copyright infringement. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
