Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

I had quit my job because for almost 4 yrs of my employment they have constantly told me that my outfit was against the dresscode policy. I was so emotionally distressed that I just have to quit. Everything the company have on the list of "clothing items that cant be worn" are basically the kind of items I got in my closet. My question is, shouldn't the company provide a clothing allowance to the employees if they require employees to wear only certain things? How I dress is part of being me so with them asking me to change is basically asking me to alter myself as a person. I mean, I know my limitations when it comes to the clothes I wear. I just feel like it's so unfair for them to mess up my confidence. Everyday I went to work I'm always worried that my outfit is not proper enough for the company even though I'm just wearing jeans and shirt. I was so emotionally tired I had to give up my job. Please help. Thank you.

No, employers are not required to pay for an employee's wardrobe and an employer can properly require a dress code. Many employers prohibit jeans or other casual clothing to boost professionalism and an employee can either comply with the dress code or seek employment elsewhere.
