my mother in-law lives with us,she is 82 and a widow with out a will,we were wondering if we're liable for her debt/credit card bills?

Absolutely not. Your mother-in-law's estate will be liable to settle any debts that she may have had during her life, which will, in turn, reduce the size of her estate. Just make sure you do not use her cards for your own purchases and that you are not listed as co-borrowers or 'cardholders' on her account.
