A civil domestic relations protective order is a court order restraining a person from committing abuse, going near the protective person, and other ways of protecting the safety of the protective person. Before the order can issue there must be a significant family or dating relationship and evidence of abuse committed by the non-protected person. Abuse is generally considered conduct of a criminal nature like assault and battery or threats.
