on a divorce complaint, what does it mean when a statement read, "prohibit defendant from imposing any restraint on plaintiff's personal liberty".?

This is the language of a restraining order. This clause while it talks about restraint on liberty is used to prevent domestic abuse of all types.

While this is not technically a restraining order, it simply means that you have no right to limit the conduct or movement of your spouse. This language is somewhat old fashioned because husbands no longer have a legal right to dictate the conduct, behavior, or movement of their wives.
