Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

Can I sue for defamation of character? My mother passed away recently from cancer. The last month of her life she was in the hospital (mostly) or at my house. Very shortly after her death I began hearing from family members that my sister told people I tried to kill my mother by messing with her morphin drip ( which she didn't have). Shortly after the police come to my door to say that my step father, who was in GA until the day my mother died, said I stole my mothers jewelry and tried to kill her. This sparked an investigation an turns out that my sister and step father collude to make me look bad to commit, among other things, insurance fraud. These lies about me were also told to the insurance investigator. Can I sue my sister and step father for defamation?
