Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

Terminated job

I was fired today because I was told I lied about a job at a previous animal hospital when during my interview I was not asked about working at any specific animal hospital nor did I give permission to call this previous employer for a reference. I did not sign any application or paperwork stating anything about previous jobs. I am not sure if the previous employer actually said something negative about me causing this termination or if another employer who knew I worked at this previous employer said something bad about my previous job. This employee has also called me a Lesbian (I am married) and she elbowed me in the back - caught on camera. When I reported this my workplace became a hostile environment with others talking about me etc. What can I do about being terminated ''because I lied about working at the previous animal hospital''?

Re: Terminated job

Generally speaking, most employees are employees at will, meaning that you can be terminated for basically any non-discriminatory reason. Having said that, if you feel that you were terminated becuase your employer thought that you are a lesbian, then you may have a case for discrimination.
