My apartments lease is up in September and I was just notified that I was getting Subsidize housing next week can I break my lease with out legal consequences?

If you have a lease for a term ending in September, then you are obligated to pay the full term rent. You may want to explain the circumstances and ask your landlord if they would be willing to release you from the remainder of your term. If you paid a last month's rent, I would expect that the landlord will keep that, together with your security deposit. I have found that if you can find a suitable replacement tenant, the landlord will have a much harder time refusing your request and, if a new tenant is taken on, will not be able to sue you for the remainder of your lease. No you cannot break the lease. Instead I would speak to the landlord and try to work something out. He may be able to qualify his apartment for the subsidy so it could be a win-win for both of you.

If not, he will need to get a new tenant to replace you before September.
