Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

My ex boyfriend hasn't lived with me since October and it is now May. He has clothes and items at my place. I told him, I was finally putting his things outside in boxes and that he needs to pick them up. He is refusing to come get them. How long am I responsible for his items?

Your best bet is to do what you just did, but be more clear and put it in writing to protect yourself.

You can send him a letter via mail and e-mail (certified mail if you want) letting him know that (1) you are holding his things, (2) that he should contact you to arrange to pick them up prior to xx/xx/xxxx, (3) if he has not collected his things by xx/xx/xxxx you will be donating his items to charity. You want to do what you can to protect yourself from future claims that you stole his items or improperly destroyed them or gave them to others.

Good luck!
