Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I am currently in the divorce process and had thought mediation would be the best route as my spouse and I do not have any children. We have a house and a car but other than that our assets are very minimal.

He hired a lawyer because he doesn't know any of the laws on divorce. I do not feel I need a lawyer however, I DO NOT want the house and am impartial to the car. If I want to fight to get alimony on the house (if I get stuck with it) how would I do that? Or am I able to file some way that would allow me to give the house up? I don't want to sell only because the market is so bad and it would take forever! to sell. I don't want to live there with memories of us and everything. I also don't know if I can continue to pay the mortgage on my own.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks a bunch!!!

It is interesting that you feel you don't need a lawyer, but are posting valid legal questions for lawyers to answer. You owe it to yourself to at least consult with a divorce attorney to get your questions answered and find out your rights. www.kliszlaw.com. Tim Klisz

I strongly recommend you meet with a divorce lawyer. You are headed into a serious legal proceedingwith no clue how to do that. It appears to me that this is like heading into surgery without a doctor. Bad idea.
