Legal Question in Insurance Law in Michigan

home insurance

we had a fire that destroyed a building in our yard, along with everything inside it. the insrance company denied our clam,sying we were cancelled, but my wife sent them a check and it cleared,so we thought we were covered. they say they sent the check back but we havnt recieved it. do we have a case?
