Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan

Taking Vacation Days

I've worked for a company for 14 years. Their policy is 0 absence which is fine, I've had perfect attendance for years. My question is starting in 2003 we must now schedule our vacation in 1 week increments, no exceptions.

We had been able to schedule 20 days vacation as days off or weeks, our choice. If we do not schedule our vacation this way they will pick the weeks for us. We had been able to schedule vacation for kids doctors, school etc.. This type of scheduling will cause a hardship on many employees.

The flexablity won't be there any more. What can happen if employees have to use their vacation as a week at a time and then they now need to call in and there is a 0 tolerance for absence because they changed their policy?

Re: Taking Vacation Days

Your company may change its vacation policy at any time for any reason. Most companies do not allow vacation to be used to cover absences, but instead allow (but are not required to give) a stated number of "sick days" or "personal days" for this purpose.
