Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Is it legal for a mobile home landlord to mail you a statement that changes the due date of the lot rent? Lot rent was due on the 10th of the month. You had until the 15th to pay withouth being late. I paid my lot rent and my check was cashed on 10/18/2011. I received a statement in the mail today that shows my prev. balance which is my 10/10/2011 lot rent, plus my Nov lot rent, which the statement says due date Nov 1st. The statement reflects the 10/10/2011 amount plus the Nov lot rent combined to be paid Nov 1st. Plus there is no pro-rated amount as I'm legally paid up to Nov 10th.

If the landlord is modifying the terms of your lease or rental agreement, that modification needs to be done in writing, with an appropriate notice sent to you, as outlined in the terms of your lease agreement. A landlord can change the due date for rent, just like he can change the amount of the rent, but it has to be in compliance with the terms of your written agreement.
