how could I find out if he had any stocks, bonds, ira's, without finding any paperwork is there a web site or phone # to call? thank you!

There is no central database for collection of those items. However, you may wish to look at his prior 2-3 years of banking records for depositis from the distributions/payout of any items such as those you listed. You may also check his taxes or order prior years from the IRS to see what he reported as assets.
