Legal Question in Personal Injury in Minnesota

injured stay-at-home mom can't do my ''job''

I am a stay-at-home mother of three small children and recently fell and broke my ankle on someone else's property. Their homeowner's insurance is covering the medical related costs, but ''has never heard of'' any case in which someone requests services that are needed to do the ''job'' of a stay-at-home mother now that I am unable. Is there anything legally to do to get compensation for the costs we are incurring for various things I do (e.g. housecleaning, transportation for my children, childcare, etc.)?

Whether you can get something other than medical expenses depends in large part on why the fall occurred. If you can show negligence on the owner of the property where you fell that is greater than any negligence you may have you may have a claim against the homeowner. On the other hand, if you were more at fault, or if you can't show fault on the homeowner, then the insurance company would not owe anything other than the covered medical expenses under their policy.

I am sorry that my office can not represent you on this matter but I would urge you to contact an attorney near where you live to discuss the details of this claim to see if you might have a further claim against the homeowner. You should be aware that there are limits on the period of time you have to bring a claim and this time can be quite short so I would urge you to contact an attorney near you as soon as possible.

Good luck.
