The mother's intent is the question. If your wife has rights according to the account documents then usually those documents will control over language in the trust or will, and the provisions of the trust control over the will. However, if there is evidence that the mother intended a different arrangement, she needs to resolve the ambiguity to avoid potentially significant litigation costs.
