Legal Question in DUI Law in Missouri

question about reinstatment requirements

I was convicted of my second DWI in the state of Missouri in February of 2007. Since I am a repeat offender I was informed that my license could not be reinstated until May 2012. That was fine with me until I just received a letter in the mail stating that I need an ignition interlock (certified by the Missouri Dept of Trans) before my license can ever be restated and also must keep it on for 6 months. The problem is that I'm now living in the state of Florida and can't go back and forth to Missouri on a regular basis to get this device put on, maintained, etc. I don't really know what to do about this and the state of Missouri doesn't seem to understand that I'm not in the state anymore and haven't been since 2005. How should I handle this?

Re: question about reinstatment requirements

I am not sure that the state of Missouri thought about all of these scenarios before passing this law. Did Florida say you actually have to get reinstated in Missouri before they issue you a license there? Or must you just be elegible for reinstatement? You would probably still have to serve your period of suspension but it's worth figuring out. Also, as far as monitoring the device goes, I don't believe there is a requirement that the interlock ignition device be furnished by a MO company as long as they report to MO. The providers are not state companies. They are privately owned. Most companies can monitor the device from a remote location. You don't actually have to physically report anywhere except when you initially get it installed. This law is new so I'm sure it will be heavily tested. I don't have a great answer but just some initial thoughts.
