Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

change in paternity

The name listed on my son birth certificate is not mine. It is the name of my son's mother's ex-husband. They were divorcing at he time and she was scarded to list my name. I have know from day one as does the mother that this is my son. I hav also supported his mother and him from day one. I would like to have the records corrected. Is this something I can do my self in proper person. Do we need a dna test or can I just go in open court and admit to paternity. Where do I start.

Father wants to establish his Paternity

Vital statistics issues birth certificates and can change them with a court order. You can sue to establish your paternity under the laws set forth in Chapter 126 of the Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS). The NRS is available at any library in Nevada and online at www.leg.state.nev.us. Since the laws and procedures are complicated, I would recommend that you hire an attorney to take care of this for you. Remember, by establishing paternity, you will have the obligation to pay child support and may be found to be financially responsible for back child support.
