Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Mother filed for child custody in NV & Father filed in CA

My wife filed for custody and the other party was served on 8/16 a few days later we receive papers stating that he has filed for custody on 8/22. My step-daughter has lived with us in Nevada with the fathers knowledge for a little over a year before all of this happened. She is currently living with him because we sent her there for track break and he never returned her and didn't hear from them until we started filing a missing persons report at the police station. The father of my step daughter called 5 minutes later as soon as the police officer left a message on his voicemail. She has always lived with us and for school reasons have used the fathers parents address. We would like to hire an attorney but with 3 kids and making very little it's very hard to come up with all of the money at once to hire an attorney. Suggestions and comments are really appreciated.

Re: Mother filed for child custody in NV & Father filed in CA

I know this probably comes across as self serving to the profession, but it is important to remember that practicing law is just that... a profession. You are buying the years of education and experience in hiring a professional to give you advice and handle your problems.

Your case, or in this instance more specifically your wife's case, is one where you certainly should use a lawyer to advance your interests to get your child back. It is not at all clear from the text of your question if avoidance of using an attorney in the past has help create the dilemna you have now, but I strongly suspect the case from what you have written.

By analogy, if you needed an operation to save your life could you find the money? I suspect that answer is yes. If you want to markedly improve your chances of getting your child back figure out how you can hire the best family law attorney you can find, and make it happen.
