Re: signing over custody

In Nevada you do have to go to court for ten minutes. You will need not only the mother's consent but the father's. If the child is over 14 she must consent too. You must also be 10 years older than your sister to adopt her.

Re: signing over custody

There are several issues you must address before final adoption.

1) You must notify the father of the adoption. If the father is unable to be notified or contacted, you must follow certain procedures of notice through publication.

2) You must ensure that you are at least 10 years older than your sister. Additionally, you will need to show that you have the financial capability of supporting your sister.

You will still need to appear in Court to get a formal Adoption Order. Family Court has a Self-Help center that can aid you in your pursuit.

If you would like to consult with an attorney contact my office and we can schedule an appointment.
