Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

I own a company registered in NY that operates its business in New Jersey. I did work for a client remotely and he is not paying the bill. Do I file a small claims case in New Jersey or in New York?

Locksley Wade Law Office of Locksley O. Wade

A suit would take place in the state and county where the transaction occurred or where the defendant can be found. In your case, it can be argued that the transaction took place at your place of business. The defendant would have no argument if they were sued in their home county. In the future you may want to have a jurisdictional clause (choice of law and place of law suits) for the resolution of disputes. Best wishes.
