Legal Question in Construction Law in New Jersey

I have a contract with a builder to do insurance work. The fine print states if approved and I don't use this contractor I will owe them $1500. The contractor is grossly over priced and I don't want to use them. I own the home with my wife but she did not sign the contract, is it still valid?

Buying title insurance through a builder is like paying the fox to watch the hen house. If your wife is a named party on the contract and has not signed it, it does not bind her and probably does not bind you either. The way to get a more definitive opinion is to have a lawyer read it. See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
