Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

i recieved an offer for a settlement for one of my credit cards, and now i'm recieving another letter that says i have to pay more than what was said. i've been paying on time every month for the settlement.. could they change their mind and ask for more than what was offered or are they not able to?
